Sustainability mobility

Electric bikes

Our clients have the possibility to rent electric bikes to discover the city and tackle Lausanne’s hills.

Free transportation cards for the city of Lausanne

Free public transportation cards for the city of Lausanne are offered to guests with each night stay booked at our hotel to allow them to use the metro and buses of the central Lausanne network free of charge for the duration of their stay.

Electric vehicle charging stations

Guests can charge their electric cars in the hotel car park at one of our 5 charging stations.

Buildings & exteriors

Gardens and beehives

The hotel boasts 4 hectares of beautiful gardens with a variety of plants as well as seven beehives and a greenhouse where aromatic herbs are grown. Guests can enjoy our homemade honey and these aromatic herbs in the dishes of our gastronomic restaurant “Anne-Sophie Pic”.

Renewable Energy

Since the beginning of 2022, 100% of the hotel's electricity comes from hydropower, which is renewable.

Heat pump in the lake

Since 1992, we have been using a heat pump system linked to the water of the nearby Lake Geneva which uses its coolness to cool the rooms through the air conditioning. A heat recovery system is associated with it, which allows the pools of the Cinq Mondes Spa to be heated. Thus, our air conditioning system consumes five times less electricity than conventional systems.

Home automation system / MCR installations (measurement, control and regulation)

Our hotel is equipped with a home automation system that manages the temperature and light intensity according to hotel occupancy, time of day and season. We can therefore:

  • Regulate the lights remotely (for example to dim them at night)
  • Regulate the temperature of the rooms when they are not occupied and lower the temperature by 1 or 2 degrees during the night
  • Limit the temperature of hot water
  • Automatically switch the air conditioning off in the rooms when windows and/or balcony doors are opened

Traceability of our products

Our chefs pay particular attention to the products they use, insisting on their traceability. We know exactly where each ingredient we use in our dishes comes from.

Recycling

Recycling our soaps with Sapocycle

We recycle all of our used soap in collaboration with Sapocycle, a non-profit organisation that transforms soaps discarded in hotels into products that improve the lives of underprivileged individuals. The soaps are recycled by disabled people and then distributed to improve the sanitary conditions of families in need. For more information on the process and programme, please visit https://sapocycle.org/process/

Transforming our food waste into renewable energy

All of our kitchen waste is collected and transformed into energy by BioEcoEnergie SA through a methanisation process. They start by transforming our food waste into biogas and fertiliser, called digestate. The biogas is then simultaneously transformed into electrical and thermal energy in a cogeneration engine. In 2021, our food waste contributed to the production of 23,940 kWh of electricity.

Upholstery department

We have an in-house upholstery team whose responsibility it is to repair furniture, curtains, tapestries and other materials throughout the hotel to follow a 'fix it rather than throw it away' moto.

Stabilised aqueous ozone cleaning solutions

Our housekeeping teams use a completely environmentally friendly cleaning solution created by Tersano machines for 98% of its cleaning needs. The Tersano cleaning system transforms ordinary tap water and oxygen in the air into a stabilised aqueous ozone solution, a very powerful cleaner and disinfectant. The production of this solution on site eliminates the need for transportation and drastically reduces the amount of packaging used. These products are not harmful to one’s health, unlike some of the chemicals previously used. And when the job is done, the product becomes water and oxygen again, without any impact on our planet and our waterways.

The Cinq Mondes spa

From 2023 onwards, all our packaging will change its look to underline our premium positioning and our eco-design approach:

  • Recyclable glass for the majority of jars and bottles
  • Recycled and recyclable plastic for 100% of the tubes and certain bottles and jars
  • Durable wooden caps
  • Waste reduction: elimination of wedges for products that do not require them (elimination of the facing bevel), better adjustment of the boxes to the products, reduction of secondary packaging items, particularly for the GétoSuprême range
  • FSC certification for all boxes

Unique projects

Cadesio chocolates

We collaborate with “Cadesio” for the chocolates offered to our clients. This Lausanne-based chocolate brand offers a variety of locally made chocolates, each of which helps a different association in the region through financial support. More than 25% of their profits are donated to these different associations and the company's employees also offer their support in the form of marketing and volunteering throughout the year. If you would like to learn more about their projects and what additional support you can give to these associations, we invite you to visit their website at: https://cadesio.com/eng/the-project/.

Offering our support to associations for local projects

We support the associations Planète Enfants Malades and Make-a-Wish Foundation through a variety of projects throughout the year.

Employee wellbeing

Accommodation and catering

Our employees can take advantage of preferential rates for accommodation in our employee residences and meals in our staff restaurant.

Discounts at local businesses and luxury hotels

We offer all of our employees the opportunity to enjoy discounts in several local shops, hairdressers, bars and other businesses. They can also discover the "Suisse Deluxe" hotels, a collection of the most luxurious hotels in Switzerland, at ultra-preferential rates.

Electrically assisted trolleys for the housekeeping team

We offer motorised electrically assisted trolleys to transport their equipment more easily and to improve their comfort, reduce the risk of serious injury and increase their well-being.

Comité D'CLIC

Employees of our hotel can join the D'CLIC committee, which helps to make their work life more pleasant and to help strengthen links between staff members. This committee also organises staff participation in local community service initiatives (Christmas tea time at the children's hospital, collection of donations, lake cleanups etc.). Through this committee, our employees can also participate in local sport and charity events (24-hour swimming race, 20 kilometres of Lausanne, etc.).
